Note from Camille Gage
Dear JM students,
I had a fantastic experience working with you on the American Visions project. I was inspired by our discussions, your knowledge of current issues, and the creative ideas you had for the flag. I will be bringing the deconstructed flag back to my studio in Minneapolis to paint the union (stars on the blue field) and assemble all of the pieces into a single flag. I will think of you as I continue our work and will use the blog as a touchstone to stay connected to the energy we had while working together. Keep posting!
I plan to attend the unveiling at John Marshall High School later this semester and look forward to seeing you again very soon. Until then, remember that creativity is about more than art - it is about life. It can inspire all of what you do and how you live if you recognize its power and cultivate it.

To the Rockin' Rockets,
Thank you for jumping in and saying "Yes!" to the work of Thursday and Friday. I have been bragging about you to everyone who's asked about the American Visions project--what an intelligent, creative, passionate group of people! I look foward to the unveiling of your artwork, and to seeing you all again.
Cheers and thanks,
Carla

thank you SO much camille.
corny as this may sound, but i was moved by the project.
particularily on friday, when i heard random American Studies students saying "i wonder where my piece will be? oh i hope i can find it!"
and i realized: it doesn't matter where it is. its all one piece now. its our flag--and we did it together. THAT'S a big citizenship thing--putting into our community and country!!
transcendentalism ties in here too: we made ONE thing, but put our SELF into it.
deep and profound, no? ^__^
so i can't wait to see our flag!!
Thank you guys so much. This was such an eye opening thing and it was amazing. It wouldn't have been done without your help. Thanks
~Sam
Being apart of the America Vision was one of the coolest things so far this year. It merged a lot of my new interests. This year is probably the first year in school for me that I truly enjoy history and learning about America. Also Im enjoying art more and more, because it relaxes me and makes me think. So while doing this project I really learned a lot about the opportunities, individualities, and commuities that a democracy has. What made it even more cool was that i got to learn it through art. Art can say so much when you try to read it, but it might not always say the same thing to everyone, like democracy. To learn about the depth of art and democracy together was an awesome learning experience that I can use to learn more. Thanks All, God Bless ~Jess~
I LOVEEE your enthusiasm and it actually changed me a bit thinking about other things in a more closer and different perspective. I hope to see you again and it is great news you're coming here again next semester. LOOKING FORWARD to do more work with you (: (3 and 4)
